The most common health hazard of radiation is sunburn, which causes between approximately 100,000 and 1 million new skin cancers annually in the United States Radioactive pollution (also radioactive contamination) is the presence of radioactive substances in the environment. Extreme ultraviolet and higher frequencies, such as X-rays or gamma rays are ionizing, and these pose their own special hazards: see radiation poisoning. This includes: electromagnetic radiation, such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma radiation (γ) particle radiation, such as alpha radiation (α), beta radiation (β), proton radiation and neutron. Pollutants, the components of pollution, can be either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants.Pollution is often classed as point source or nonpoint source pollution In physics, radiation is the emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through space or through a material medium.
