A Message from Our Division DirectorNYU Langone Health’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the is dedicated to excellence in, and innovation, the highest standards in and outreach, and a humanistic approach to medicine. These four core principles guide us as we work to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases of the gastrointestinal system.Toward this end, we focus on providing a supportive academic environment for our clinicians, researchers, and educators. We know that their ability to pursue their career goals and aspirations results in meaningful advancements in medicine and ultimately in happier, healthier patients.Our division is home to some of the most outstanding physicians and health professionals in the world—and some of the finest human beings with whom I could hope to work. From general gastroenterology to hepatology and liver transplantation, to our, Advanced Endoscopy and Therapeutic Innovation Program, and, are highly trained and specialized in their respective areas of expertise.Collaboration is vital to our success—with our referring physicians, with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, and with our patients and their families—so that we can provide a comprehensive, integrated experience for all patients in need.Our many practice sites contribute greatly to our mission.

Williams, MD, has been named director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology’s fellowship programs.Dr. Williams is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and an attending gastroenterologist at Bellevue.
Williams’s academic interests are focused on medical education.“In addition to being highly dedicated to the education and training of our medical students, house staff, and gastroenterology fellows, Dr. Williams is an academic leader both within NYU Langone and at the national level,” says Dr. Williams takes over the program directorship from, who has been promoted to an assistant dean at NYU School of Medicine. “We are grateful to Dr. Poles for his dedication and service in developing a premier gastroenterology fellowship program over the past 10 years.
He has been a teacher and mentor to countless students and trainees and will continue to do so in his new leadership role,” says Dr. Gastroenterology and Hepatology EventsOur annual, designed for physicians and trainees, focuses on complex gastrointestinal and liver disease and is certified for continuing medical education and maintenance of certification credits. The Division of Gastroenterology, and provides a full range of services for adult and adolescent patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, biliary tree and liver. Ambulatory services include specialty clinics for patients with pancreatic disease, biliary disease, liver disease (evaluation for liver transplantation offered through the combined BWH and MGH Liver Transplant Program), inflammatory bowel disease and GI oncology.include interventional management of upper and lower GI bleeding, benign and malignant pancreatic and biliary disease, portal hypertension, and benign and malignant esophageal disease. Include diagnosis and palliation of tumors (e.g., colon cancer), evaluation of tumors with endoscopic ultrasound, and treatment of tumors with laser photocoagulation. A GI physiology center provides esophageal, pancreatobiliary and anorectal motility, 24-hour esophageal pH, and tests of intestinal absorption, gastric and pancreatic function. An integrated approach is coordinated with the Departments of Surgery and Radiology.The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy is committed to the hospital's mission to expand the boundaries of gastroenterology diagnosis, treatment and related medicine through research.
We seek to advance continually our understanding of patients' gastroenterology symptoms and problems at all levels, and continue to bring forth new, innovative, safer and more effective methods of treatment.
